Giants

Mostly based on myth

The word giant comes from the roman and greek word giggas which meant "huge". Though giants are one of the most common monsters in folklore, the giants from D&D are definitely based on norse culture. For example, the giant language from the game directly translates to the norse language, like Jottin meaning giant and Ettin meaning runt. In norse mythology there are several different types of giants such as frost, fire, and mountain giants. The images bellow go from shortest to tallest.

A hill giant, the dumbest, smallest, and weakest of their kind, with tan fatty skin, wearing only simple leathers and carrying anything they can swing around.

Stone giants are the most reclusive and best artisans of giant kind. With extremely tough gray skin and relatively slender build. They carve masterful clubs and stones.

A frost giant, the most barbaric and cold hearted of the giants, with gray blue skin, and a burly build, they make patchwork armor and carry trophies of there battles

Fire giants patrol around massive strongholds, with spiked red hair and burley builds. They make the best weapons and armor.

Cloud giants are the most extravagant and magical of all giants. With grey skin and bright blue hair, they wear noble clothes and jewelry to fit there lanky build, but there are no shoes big enough for them.

Storm giants are the biggest and most powerful of all giant kin. They resemble cloud giants, but are larger and have beards as big as humans with a looming demeanor

In mythology

This is the Jotunn Hyrrokkin. it's said to be one of the first depictions of norse giants made in the 10th century.
