Loosely based on mythology
Trolls originally come from norse mythology, but more is known about the later Scandinavian folklore. They are described as being large, grotesque giants at one end of the scale, but look exactly like humans at the other end of the scale. They apparently lived in caves as small families, and were not friendly to outsiders. The word troll translates from norse to "Fiend". In d&d, Trolls are large, lanky, green skinned giants that dwelled in any easily maneuverable terrain, and were best known for there regenerative properties.
