Mostly based on mythology
Unicorn mythology is found all around the world and the legend persists to this day. The earliest depiction of a unicorn was found in the first Indus Valley city, which was founded in 3300 B.C.E. The unicorn is usually depicted in mythology as a white stallion with a golden main. They have lions tails, cloven hooves, and a goats beard. In d&d, Unicorns were created in the seven heavens alongside the angels to bring peace to the forests and bring celestial magic to the feywild.
