Mummies

Loosely based on Egyptian culture and folklore

The word Mummy in latin translates to "embalmed corpse". Mummies are found all over the world, but the mummies in Dungeons and Dragons are based on those found in Egypt, where their skin is dried, organs removed, and wrapped in bandages covered in sigils of the dead, surrounded by riches and sealed in ancient tombs and shrines to the gods of death. Egyptian mummies are thought to be first embalmed in 2800 B.C.E.
